Fellow IYRS Student Works in Major Whaleship Restoration

On October 20, 2008. the Charles W.Morgan was moved from its permanent berth at Chubb's wharf in Mystic Seaport to the Museum's Henry B. Dupont preservation shipyard and was readied for its haul out in November.

In this historic conservation project which may last over 3 years, we have an IYRS student Chris Taylor (dark blue shirt) who has been working at the Seaport since 2006 after dropping out of IYRS completing his first year. Chris worked on the ROHAN along side our unforgettable Hank Drude (06') and other IYRS students who did an internship at this shipyard of the Museum.

The Charles W. Morgan is the last surviving wooden whaling ship from the great period where these sailing ships were traveling all over the high seas in search of their valuable pray. It was built in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 184, and was retired in 1921. It arrived in Mystic in 1941 where every year thousands of visitors have seen it.
