Let us see where are we after 2 years of initiating our alumni association.
To begin with we grew. Twenty seven new graduates came out of IYRS this June of who thirteen from the Systems one year program. The biggest number ever in the school history and a number which will likely be growing in the years to come.
Then we had a marvelous repeat of our September Sailing event. This time the wind held and we managed three races as well as a late afternoon picnic during glorious weather . We have of course to thank Elizabeth Meyer of her generous donation to finance the costs of the J-22s from Sail Newport.
As a result of the donation above , we have a first financial surplus and we established a bank account as well as a tax number to use when we declare ourselves as a non profit "organization".
Then by working all summer and contributions from all sides in text and photos we opened our own web site which includes a blog with our announcements, as well as a Facebook account which includes a closed group of alumni where we will hope to interact and pursue new directions as an association.
Most important , we have developed a credibility as an association and although still from being an organization which functions without the volunteering of few dedicated individuals, we are gathering momentum and make our own colleagues, hopefully, proud of who we are and what we stand for. Best proof of that are the new alumni who joined to help in what we do like Jeff Schuldheiss, Keith Brown and Tom Daniels, Thank you gentlemen.
On the road ahead we will of course pursue work on our website, we will begin to develop an organizational structure, and we will examine the possibility of a winter event to further help us foster ties amongst us.
Those of us who wish to help we can only say, please do not be bashful, there is room for everybody.
From Will Sofrin and myself we look forward to what the future may bring.
